Weekly Prizes

A weekly prize will be awarded to the tipster who scores the largest number of points (correct tips and bonus) for the round, NOT the tipster with the largest correct tips. If there is a tie between two or more tipsters, the prize money will be split evenly between the winning tipsters. An example is shown below:

# Name Correct Tips Bonus Total Prizes
1 Cowley 5 1.16 6.16 $10
2 Ben 6 0.03 6.03
3 Daniel 5 0.96 5.96
4 Charmain 4 0.24 4.24

Note that although Ben has scored the larger number of correct tips, Cowley has the largest Total so Cowley is the winner of the weekly prize.

Rationale Behind Total Score Wins

To receive a bonus your average tip must be better than the overall average of the other tipsters. Therefore if you beat another tipster who has more correct tips than you, then you have obviously tipped much better than the other tipster in the games that you got correct, and have still tipped the incorrect game as good or better than the other tipster.

For example, tipster #1 thought the 5 games he got correct were obvious and skillfully tipped all the margins within 15 points. The other game was going to be tight and he tipped the loosing team by a small margin. Now tipster #2 got the same 5 games correct as tipster #1 but was not even close in the margins, and just happened to luck the sixth game correct with another way out margin. Tipster #1 therefore deserves to win since he had more idea of the outcome of each game.

Due to the number of bonus points on issue, it is most probable that you can only overtake a tipster with one more correct tip than yourself. Therefore a tipster with 4 correct tips may beat a tipster with 5 correct tips, but will probably never beat a tipster with 6 correct tips.
